Peter Tessier: Is the Preds Success a Motivator for Jets? Taking a look at how the Jets could and should mimic some of the moves that the Predators have made on their road to the SCF.

Good article, you can not draft and develop only! You also can not expect to win with a full team of kids. You must make trades to improve your overal team and team balance. No team wins every trade they make, you can't be afraid to make trades. There are moves Chevy can make. I believe we need a stronger two way centre added, could Myers get us that right now? Would Columbus move Ryan Murray for hometown kid Raslovik to give us another LH D? Can we move our first rounder? Seems the Rangers might want to move Stepan before his no trade kicks in later this summer? Do we need Copp and Lowry? Just do something Chevy, if we all gain is a goalie, I will be disappointed.

the difference is the preds have a core that is mid to late 20s. The jets will get there in time. But the defense has to be addressed as does adding a vet goalie who can play 40ish games a season. Maybe sign Elliot??

Might not be a bad solution if the Wings are willing to retain. The Jets have the cap space and it gives Hellebuyck two more years.
What would it take to get Howard (objectively)?

Something like this would make the Jets certainly a play off team:

Ehlers Scheifele Wheeler
Dano Little Laine
Connor Perreault ??
Tanev Lowry Armia

Morrissey Trouba
Enstrom Byfuglien
Stuart Myers

Helleybuyck Howard

While in theory Howard could be a solution what if he isn't?

In 26 games he had a .927 but...

the year before he had 37 games and .906
the year before that 53 games a .910
in 13-14 the same- 53 and .910

It only keeps going all over the map if you go back further. It's not to say that he hans't had success it's that it's been really inconsistent. He's got two more years at 5.2 so unless the Wings want to retain some salary I'd say no, not gonna happen but...

(thinking Trouba trade but looks at Detroit's defence and barfs)

no buts... not gonna happen

One appearance in the finals does not exactly spell "model franchise".

peter, you can say the same about any goalie. Fleury's numbers were not exactly great especially when you consider he plays for Pitt where Howard plays for Detroit. Mason had an off year, Elliot had bad strecth's last year and a horrible play off. Any goalie will come with risk.

The answer is no, because Nashville plays a speed and skill game that lets their blueliners jump into the play. We don't, and never will under current management. They want to drag the kids down and muck it up.

No team with Tanev and Stuart on the roster makes it out of the bottom 10. That lineup is missing Petan and Copp, and has entirely too many Golden Knights (Myers).

Stuart is a great 8th option on defense, and hopefully Enstrom waives his no-trade so the Jets can protect 7 forwards. I don't think Vegas takes an exposed Enstrom.

Call me crazy, but I think the Jets stick with Hellebuyck as starter. Reminds me lots of Gibson in Anaheim. The Jets need a quality back-up that play about 30 games next year. I don't like any option proposed so far. I think we go for a guy like Bernier in Anaheim.

If it is deemed we need a goalie to be a 1A or 1B, I would like to see the Jets pull off a trade with Florida or Vegas for Reimer as the Panthers cannot protect he and Luongo.

Just some ultimate thoughts....

You are assuming Trouba stays. I have not seen/heard any evidence of him wanting to stay here. I think we should trade Trouba for a guy like Tavares....

Helly and Gibson are similar in only age and size. I like that Gibson has fight in him, he fights to see the puck and moves guys out of his crease, Helly does not do this and this will ultimately keep him from becomming elite. He waits for the puck to come to him and relies on his size too much. Watching Bernier play that final game I was reminded that Bernier also lacks fight. There were times when the puck was there in fron tof him and he lets teams bang away at it, like Helly does instead of trying to cover it. I dont like nor want this trait in our goalie.

if San Jose decides to move on from Joe, even though I dont see any chance of him coming here I would hope Chevy at least tries. We could offer him more than he'd probably get anywhere else in terms of years and salary and he would instantly solidify our center ice position and add a huge amount of experience and leadership. He really could be a peice to help push us to that next level!!!

Stop asking for Tavares. Trouba for Tavares is terrible for us. It creates a hole on our blueline while giving us the most expensive 2C (JT) and 3C (Little) in the league. Terrible move, especially with Trouba likely holding more value.

Looking at Pittsburgh making it to the conference finals with an AHL defensive corps (that include Ron Hainsey of all people), I think this trade would do wonders for the Jets. Even last year, the Penguins won the cup with reclamation projects like Justin Shultz in the fold.

this is valid, there is no true set of blue prints on how to put together a stanly cup winning team. History has shown it can be put together many ways.

Thanks for agreeing with me, outside of Edmonton, Pittsburgh and Dallas, we would have the most dynamic middle in the league if we got Tavares.

Signing Tavares (or trading for him) would cripple us. It would also leave Morrissey alone in the blueline in 3 years, right around when Tavares would begin to decline.

So let me get this straight? You want to sign Little long term who is 29 years old. But you don't want a guy like Tavares who is 26 years old and going to be on the decline at 29?

OK, try again......

Well to be fair, I wasn't so much agreeing with adding taveras where I was agreeing with your points about teams being able to compete and win a cup without a stellar blue line

Ross,

Next time I promise I will give you an autograph, but I really can't sleep over at your house. Do you think we could go back to being friends and you could spell my name correctly?
